The Arts @ Askennonia

If the left side of your brain has been telling the right side of your brain to get out and exercise your imagination, then the Arts @ Askennonia will help you find your creative side!

Askennonia Senior Centre is located in the North Simcoe Sports and Recreation Centre in Midland and is open 9 am – 4 pm weekdays and offers over 30 different programs weekly for people who have had a 55th birthday.
Details can be found at http://www.askennonia.com or by calling (705) 526-7609.

We offer
Watercolour Painting on Thursdays

Acrylic Painting on Mondays
MJ Weber offers Acrylic Painting at $15 per class.

Oil Painting & Woodcarving on Wednesdays
The Woodcarvers meet weekly (no charge) and have the choice of working on a group project or working individually. They help newcomers learn the techniques and support each other with tips and suggestions.

Beading every other Tuesday
Jeanette Brunelle teaches Beading twice per month and provides attendees with patterns to make amazing jewelry and art pieces ($1 per visit).

Craft Club on first and third Tuesday
Craft Club is a 1:30 pm ‘drop in’ and open to the entire community, meaning you do not need a membership or pay anything to attend. All are welcome.

Creative Writing on Mondays
Creative Writing is led by retired English teacher, John Phillips. John encourages the group to remember life’s stories, to express present-day thoughts and to have fun with writing. The fruits of their labours often end up in the monthly newsletter or on our web site. This weekly class is free to members.

We also have Open Studio on Monday afternoons, when participants in any of the Arts @ Askennonia can come in to practice or finish work.

Everyone can learn to paint, carve, craft, write, take pictures and sing. It’s just a matter of setting time aside for yourself and then coming out to learn. Not everyone’s picture looks the same, of course, but that’s what makes you unique. It’s amazing what you can do if you have good teachers and are having a bit of fun! Memberships for the rest of the year cost less than a cup of coffee per week, so come out and explore all that Askennonia has to offer for 55+ North Simcoe residents!

The Barrie Writers' Club presents...
"Writing and Revising"
Learn how to step back from a
manuscript in order to find - and fix - flaws in your plot, structure, characterization and style. You'll learn how to rethink, rework and rewrite so that your manuscript will live up to your vision.
Special Option: Participants are invited to bring a piece of their own writing (though you don't have to!) If you do bring a piece, bring 3 copies of something short (1,500 words absolute maximum, though 800 words or fewer is better).
